Where is the soul between one life and another?

Between death and the new birth, where are we? Tom explains why bodily life is the journey — and not the home.

— Tom, why does that spiritual reality exist between existences, that reality devoid of matter as we know it?

— Because we came from there to here. Our true home is not here. Our true home is there. On the other hand, the spirit confronts, in the spiritual life, the consequences of all the imperfections it could not correct in bodily life.

Roger, thoughtful, says:

— But Tom, how can you affirm that our true home is there and not here?

— Notice, Roger. We spend a few decades here — a brief instant compared to the eternity of the soul. The soul existed before incarnating and will continue to exist afterwards. Bodily life is a passage, not a destination. It is like a student who goes to study in a city far from home — the city where he studies is important, it is where he grows and learns, but his true home is another. And when he finishes his studies, he returns. The spiritual reality is not an empty waiting place — it is where the soul reflects on what it has lived, faces the consequences of its imperfections, and prepares for the next existence.
